These pouffes are not made in a big factory with machinery and all that stuff! No! No No! They are handmade in the workshops and homes, hidden in Marrakech’s winding medina…….

Moroccan pouffes typically were traditionally handmade from leather, which was abundant in Morocco due to the country’s large sheep and goat population – and in the spirit of keeping culture and traditions alive these ones are no different!

Every individual pouffe is carefully handcrafted with utmost care and precision from high quality sheepskin leather.

Warning: By buying this item you are directly helping to sustain numerous traditional crafts and skills, as well as contributing to the ongoing employment and livelihoods of many individuals!!

The first step involved the dyeing of the leather. This is done using in an array of beautiful colours from the more traditional to contemporary and bespoke shades.

The next stage of the process is pattern cutting. Once all the pieces are ready, the sections to be embroidered are then taken by the local women who hand stitch them in the comfort of their homes. This allows them to take care of their children and their households at the same time.

Once the stitching is completed, the embroidered pieces are collected from the homes and take back to the workshops for assembly into the lovely pouffe you see in this image.

Dimensions are approximately: 48cm diameter x 33cm high.

Please note: all pouffes come unstuffed but it’s easy to do yourself and old clothes are a great filling!
